AI Was Overwhelming Me. Then I Met Bones Ijeoma.

by Kalika Yap

Here’s how this all came together: I sat next to brand new Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) member: Bones Ijeoma at a Breakfast of Champions at the Langham in Pasadena.

The moment we started talking about AI, I was completely locked in.

Right there at breakfast, I invited him to speak at my forum. Months later, it finally happened.

And I need to tell you what he shared!

I’ve been drowning in AI information.

Courses stacked on top of courses. Articles saved faster than I could read them.

Every time I hit a wall trying to implement something, my solution was to find another tutorial, another framework, another expert.

Sound familiar?

This workshop came at the exact moment I needed it.

All that confusion, all those stops and starts, all the overwhelm about which direction to take?

Bones cut through it.

He gave me clarity on how to actually move forward with AI in my businesses without losing my mind in the process.

It calmed my nerves. And I’m hoping it does the same for you.

My goal for 2026 is to become an AI super user.

Not because it’s trendy, but because I know it’s how I’ll serve my clients better and build something that truly scales.

This workshop showed me exactly how to get there.

Let me share what I learned.

The Wake-Up Call We All Need

Bones opened with something that stopped me in my tracks:

“We are at the beginning of the automation revolution… this is going to be better than the internet, than mobile, than social media.”

He continued with a powerful observation:

“Entrepreneurs are slow because they don’t understand it and they’re scared of it. Or they’re trying to figure out where to begin.”

Does this resonate with you? I know it did with me.

Here’s the truth that hit home:

“The biggest shift that we need to make is understanding that AI is a co-pilot. It’s not meant to replace you or replace your team members. It’s meant to augment them.”

What Digital Change Really Means

Bones shared something profound about how we should think about this shift:

“Digital transformation is the integration of digital technology into all areas of a business, fundamentally changing how you operate and deliver value to customers.”

But here’s the part that really matters. It’s not just about technology. As he explained:

“It’s also a cultural change that requires organizations to continually challenge the status quo, experiment, and get comfortable with failure.”

The companies leading this charge? They’re seeing remarkable results.

Bones shared that digitally mature companies are 26% more profitable than their peers.

When you combine digital maturity with strong leadership, that gap widens to 48%.

The Framework That Changes Everything

What I appreciated most was Bones’s practical approach. He broke down AI capabilities into four distinct categories that any of us can understand and implement:

Predictive AI helps you forecast what’s coming next. Think sales predictions and market trends.

Generative AI creates new content, whether that’s writing, images, or even code.

Conversational AI powers the chatbots and virtual assistants that can change how you handle customer service.

Computer Vision analyzes visual data in ways humans simply cannot at scale.

As Bones put it:

“When you combine these AI capabilities together, that’s when you get massive transformation.”

The Three Categories That Matter

Here’s where Bones really opened my eyes. He broke down how AI should work in your business across three key areas:

Acquisition is about how you bring customers in. Think AI-powered marketing, lead generation, and sales processes that work smarter, not harder.

Operations covers everything that happens behind the scenes. This is where AI can automate workflows, streamline processes, and free up your team to focus on high-value work.

Delivery is how you serve your customers. AI can enhance the experience, personalize interactions, and scale your service without scaling your headcount.

But here’s the critical insight Bones shared:

“If you’re just bolting AI onto your existing workflows, you’re not using it to its full potential.”

This hit me hard. I realized I’d been guilty of exactly this. Taking my current processes and just trying to add AI on top, rather than rethinking how things could work from the ground up.

Bones explained:

“The real transformation happens when you redesign your workflows with AI in mind from the start. That’s when you see exponential gains, not just incremental improvements.”

Think about it.

If you’re using AI to write emails faster but still sending them the same way you did five years ago, you’re missing the bigger opportunity.

What if AI could help you identify who to email, when to email them, what to say, and then track engagement to optimize future outreach?

That’s not bolting on.

That’s rebuilding with intelligence baked in.

Your Step-by-Step Guide to AI Integration

Based on what I learned from Bones and my own reflections, here’s how to begin:

Step 1: Start with Self-Awareness

Take an honest look at where you are right now. Bones emphasized that “most businesses are at stage one or stage two” when it comes to digital maturity.

There’s no shame in this.

Awareness is the first step to growth.

Ask yourself: Where does your business stand today? What are your biggest pain points?

Step 2: Identify Your Highest-Value Tasks

Bones shared a crucial insight:

“Let’s start with what you’re doing on a day-to-day basis that is your highest and best use. And let’s make sure you keep doing that.”

Make a complete inventory of your tasks. Which ones only you can do? Which ones could be augmented or automated? This clarity is golden.

Step 3: Choose Your Starting Point Wisely

Don’t try to change everything at once.

Bones recommends beginning with one of four key areas:

  • Enhancing customer experience
  • Improving operational efficiency
  • Seeing new opportunities for revenue growth
  • Reducing costs

Pick the one that will create the most immediate impact for your business.

Step 4: Select the Right Tools

Here’s where it gets practical. Bones walked us through specific tools for different needs:

For general tasks, start with ChatGPT or Claude. These are your Swiss Army knives of AI.

For sales and marketing, explore tools like Jasper for content creation or Instantly AI for outreach.

For operations, consider process automation tools that can handle repetitive tasks.

For data analysis, look into platforms that can turn your numbers into actionable insights.

Step 5: Implement Thoughtfully

Bones stressed something vital:

“This is about experimentation… Give yourself permission to experiment, to fail, to learn.”

Start small. Test thoroughly. Learn quickly. Then scale what works.

Step 6: Train Your Team

Remember, this is a cultural shift as much as a technological one. As Bones noted, AI is meant to “augment” your team, not replace them. Bring your people along on this path.

Share what you’re learning.

Celebrate small wins.

Create space for questions and concerns.

Step 7: Measure and Iterate

Track your results. What’s working? What isn’t? Where are you seeing ROI?

Bones reminded us:

“AI is not something you set and forget. It’s something you continuously improve.”

The Mindset That Matters Most

Perhaps the most valuable lesson from the workshop was about mindset. Bones shared a personal story about his own evolution:

“I was one of those entrepreneurs that loved tech, loved automation, loved AI, but didn’t really know what I was doing with it… I got way too enamored with the tech. And I lost sight of my why.”

He found his way back by returning to fundamentals:

“I love helping entrepreneurs grow, scale, and exit businesses… And now AI became my vehicle to do that faster, easier.”

This is the question we all need to answer: What is your why? How can AI serve that purpose?

Moving Forward Together

The conversation at the workshop kept returning to one central theme: community and learning from each other.

There’s something irreplaceable about connecting with fellow entrepreneurs who understand what we’re going through.

We’re all figuring this out together.

Some of us are further along.

Others are just beginning.

But we’re united in our commitment to growth, innovation, and building businesses that matter.

As Bones powerfully stated:

“The opportunity in front of us right now with AI is to not just keep up, but to leapfrog, to transform, to do things that we couldn’t do before.”

The question isn’t whether to embrace AI.

The question is:

How quickly can we learn, unlearn, adapt, and implement?

My commitment for 2026 is clear. I’m going all in on becoming an AI super user.

Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s the path to serving my customers better, empowering my team more effectively, and building a business that can truly scale.
