21 Jan The # 1 Thing Entrepreneurs Should Do in 2025
As the new year begins, let’s take a moment to pause and reflect—not just on what went well last year, but on the challenges that shaped you, the lessons that called you to grow, and the small, meaningful wins that brought you joy.
This is a time to honor the fullness of your experience as an entrepreneur and step forward with clarity and purpose.
One idea I want to share with you as we step into 2025 to build your business and your life is the concept of Wise Trust.
Wise Trust is about finding a balance: trusting the structures and people around you while cultivating a deeper trust in yourself, your instincts, and your vision. It’s about showing up for your business, even when uncertainty lingers, and believing in your ability to handle both the highs and lows with confidence.
In her talk, Helping Our Students Cultivate Wise Trust, Tara Brach shared,
Trust isn’t blind faith. It’s an evolving, conscious decision to meet life with openness, even when it feels uncertain.
She described two layers of trust:
- Everyday Trust (Small T Trust): This is the trust we place in daily routines, systems, and relationships. It keeps the wheels of our business turning but can falter when things don’t go as planned.
- Deep Trust (Big T Trust): This is the trust that goes beyond the external—a grounded confidence in your ability to handle whatever comes your way, rooted in alignment with your values and vision.
Wise Trust invites us to hold both layers, not as opposites but as parts of a whole. For entrepreneurs, it’s the difference between creating systems that work and having the courage to follow your instincts when it matters most.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Building Wise Trust
Here are small steps you can take to cultivate Wise Trust in your business and life:
- Strengthen Your Systems
A strong foundation of systems can bring steadiness and clarity to your business. When systems are in place, you can focus your energy on building relationships, creating, and innovating.
Tara said, “Small T Trust begins with consistency—showing up, creating order, and doing the little things that make the big things possible.”
Action Step: Look at one area of your business (communication, finances, or workflows). Is there a process you could simplify, automate, or improve this month? Start small, and take one step forward. - Trust Yourself to Make Decisions
It’s easy to second-guess yourself when the stakes are high, but trust grows when you give yourself permission to make choices aligned with your values and intuition.
Tara shared, “Wise Trust means remembering that you’ve faced hard things before and found a way through. It’s leaning on that inner knowing, even when you feel unsure.”
Action Step: The next time you face a tough decision, ask:- Does this align with my values?
- Does this move me closer to my vision?
- What feels right in my gut?
Then take a small action, knowing you can adjust as needed.
- Lean Into Support
Building trust in others is just as important as trusting yourself. Delegating and asking for help can feel vulnerable but are necessary for growth.
Tara emphasized, “We build trust in others by being clear about what we need and giving them the opportunity to rise to the occasion.”
Action Step: This week, identify one task you’re holding onto that someone else could take on. Share clear instructions and trust your team to handle it. - Prepare for the Unknown
Challenges are inevitable, but they’re also opportunities to deepen your resilience. Reflecting on how you’ve overcome difficulties in the past can remind you of the strengths you already have.
Tara said, “Big T Trust comes from remembering you’re part of something larger—a current of connection, creativity, and possibility that’s always available.”
Action Step: Write down one challenge from the past year and the strengths you used to move through it. Keep this list as a reminder of what you’re capable of. - End Each Day with Gratitude
Gratitude creates trust by reminding you of what’s working, even on hard days. It shifts your focus to the positive and gives you the confidence to keep going.
Tara reminded us, “Gratitude opens the door to trust—it lets us see not just what’s missing, but what’s already here supporting us.”
Action Step: Before bed, write down three things that went well today, no matter how small, and one thing you’re proud of. Let this practice build your confidence over time.
